A 4 Day Jazz Festival Celebrating The West Coast Big Band Sound

The event took place Memorial Day weekend 2003
at the Four Points Sheraton located near LAX

Russell Garcia conducted one concert and participated
in two panel discussions.
The Concert was May 23 at 8:00pm.
He did a set of his arrangements for Buddy Childers and strings
and a set of his own big band arrangements.

Jazz Goes to the Movies, a panel discussion was held from 3:00-4:00 on May 23.
The other panel was The Westlake School of Music and was held May 24 10:00am-11:00am

Due to outrageous traffic on Saturday, Mary and I missed the first half hour of the panel discussion. (2 hours to get from Burbank to LAX)

The panel consisted of Russell Garcia,
Pete Rugolo, and Allyn Ferguson

The panel discussed how Jazz had been incorporated into TV and film and the various works of the panelists. Also discussed were frank and candid expressions of the degradation of music in the TV and film industry.
