The movie "Time Changer" - a time travel story with a Christian perspective - opened this week. It may be a good time to take a look at some Christian viewpoints on The Time Machine.... Here is a sermon on The Time Machine: http://www.christchurchsummit.org/Sermons-2002/020804-TimeMachine.html Here are two reviews of George Pal's 1960 movie adaptation: http://www.christiananswers.net/spotlight/movies/2001/thetimemachine1960.html http://www.charitysplace.com/review/review_timemach.htm Any comments ? |

Posted At 12:58:23 11/02/2002 I never realised that Christians, censor the content of film's to ensure that moral's, violence, and sensuality, are of an unoffensive nature to the rest of the flock! And then ask for donations to cover the cost of telling them this one's o.k to watch! Very Christian of them ;-)))! The review from Charitys place website is good in context with the Pal film, and states there isn't much to object to! Oh yeah, apart from the fact, that when George is fighting for his life, and the future of the passive Eloi. He decides not to turn the other cheek. But gives them Morlocks a DAMN good WHIPPING and TORCHING! Perhaps he should of tried reasoning! Anyway, that's not all. Weena, the tart. Only goes, and shows a bit to much leg on the dvd cover. To be fair about this review, it does say "This version of the Time Machine happens to be more faithful to the H.G.Wells classic story"! As to the other review. I found it contained a certain amount of propaganda! |

Posted At 11:46:07 03/13/2003 The Time Machine and Christianity do go hand if you believe in Revelations, the future has been shown to us in that book. Does that mean some form of time travel is possible. |

Posted At 15:34:38 03/28/2003 The Time Machine is based on the evolutionary theories of Darwin. In one 1895 review, it was criticized for not taking into account the notion of God. Some of the above links do contain remarks regarding the total absence of religion in the narrative. For the better or for the worse ? |
