Time machine question

Author Subject: Time machine question
frankie Posted At 15:16:33 04/04/2004
If a person[lets say me] had a piece of the original machine... be it the console or the chair...or some other..and built a full size around that piece..could it be called 'Original"? as the machine we do call original[bob burns] does not have all the original parts.
this is just a question...so please ady ,bruce and gary dont turn this into a movie review like you did to dons 20 questions.

Hi Frankie

If you, or anyone else had an original part. Then that part would be original! But you couldn't claim the rest of the TM built around that part, to be original.

If the majority of the original wasn't intact. I would see it the same way as you!;-)

then would say bobs machine is not the original?
ady Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 16:03:29 04/04/2004

Well, the majority of it is!;-) So that's the way i look at it. I wish the original chair wasn't sold on, and console etc were'nt removed! But there's nothing that can be done about that now!!!;-(((
frankie Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 16:07:11 04/04/2004

so you base "Original" on the majority of the original parts
im not sure but i believe bobs machine contains 50 to 60% original remember a lot of parts were beyond repair.
but fair enough he does have more original parts than anyone else would have.

I'd say Bob has more like 80-85%. The console and Chair are the only major parts missing. The dish, base, rails, engine housing and dish support are all the original parts.
In the case of US currency, if you have a minimun of 51% of a damaged bill then the Treasury Dept. will exchange it for a new bill. So using that as a guide, you would need at least 51% of the machine to call it original. Bob wins.

I've already said that the majority of it is. And thats how i look at it!
frankie Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 17:29:31 04/04/2004

but don werent the pods replaced.. as well as the missing rails..if so i dont think 80% would be accurate.
and as far as bob wins...this is just a question not a competetion.but depending if you you feel that the missing and broken parts only account for 20% of the machine.ie..chair ...console ...my favorite the lever..pods and some of the rails i would have to differ thinking that these parts were only 4% each of the total.
ady Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 18:05:19 04/04/2004

One of the pods was intact. And they used it as a template to form/reproduce them. That doesn't make them original. but it's as close as you can get!

Ok frankie, no movie "review" here. Just one question to you. Would you consider Bob's machine "Exact"? :-)
frankie Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)

im not so sure about that ady ..maybe don can tell me more i thought both pods were replaced.
but listen to you again

anything else G boy?
Gary Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 10:55:35 04/09/2004

Well Frank, usually when some uses the word "but" as in "but up until recently" I would say that they were hedging on their answer. A little "wishy-washy"?
frankie Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 11:16:07 04/09/2004

well gary lets put it this way is my lever exact i would say yes..others would differ..if not for the dvd
and the way still photos are done the wrinkles in the marble may not have never been seen.again [exact at which point in time]
the console in bobs machine is as exact as it could have been when it was built.now with the dvd you can see some very distuingishing traits of the console that were not known when the part was built.so again how do you define exact?
let me give you a hint, in one shot you can see some melting of a lamp cage...so would a consle have to have this ......or would exact be as it was built?
ady Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 16:26:49 04/09/2004

Hi Frankie

Yes. I think this matter was (clearly) dealt with in a previous post/string of yours (Time Machine)By Francois Beaulieu!

I personally think. If the parts can be made of the actual materials, "THE PROP" suggests them to be? Then that would be the greatest achievement....Well, As long as the parts look the same!!!;-)))

Yeah, the console, Harvey Mayo, made for the restoration (at the time)was brilliant!!! I'm a great fan of his work!!!;-)))
frankie Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 16:35:27 04/09/2004

ill bet if he [mayo] made a console today... it would better and more EXACT than the one on bobs machine! hence the dvd and the ability to freeze frame!
does that take care of the "wishy-washy"?
frankie Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)

Gary, You may have noticed???;-))) But frankie get's very touchy about certain things!!!;-))) WHY???

Harvey Mayo, is someone, i would CLASS as a TRUE expert!!! His work is superlative!!! And nobody is questioning what he can do!!!
frankie Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 19:40:23 04/09/2004

why do you think know so much about this mayo guy?
have you seen his work?
other than pictures?
have you talked with him?
or are you just dreaming again and trying to relate?

Frank.... you have inbred tendencies to always take opposing views to just about everything that is said here... watch the video, "The Journey Back"... a few of your queries will be resolved.

No movie review... I do not know enough about the original machine to fill in details as to how much is original and how much is not, so I go by what the more knowledgeable people have had access to... facts! Don, Harvey Mayo, Chris Perrotta... and Bob Burns!

I would say that Bob Burn's machine is about as original as you can get; it was the prop used in the film, no matter what has been done to refurbish it. The mere fact that it still exists is a testament to its originality! Every other incarnation has been based on its design. As Don points out: the dish, the base, the rails, the time generator/motor unit from the 1960 version is still present, making it acceptable enough to be called "original!" Bob wins!

Posted At 23:48:29 04/09/2004

frankie, What's your Problem??? All ady did was mention Harvey Mayo's name and you attack him. You know, this Constant Attacking Is becoming very BORING!!
frankie Re: Time machine question (Currently 0 replies)
Posted At 06:54:02 04/10/2004

no g.boy
ady seems to mention people that he has not talked with or met.as if he knows them on a personal basis.
i know none of these people have built anything for him because he wouldnt spend the money.if you read his posts he has mentioned at least six different people. thats all... not attacking.
And Bruce what opposing view?
I simply posted a question?
I am only looking for yours as well as others point of view on the originality of bobs machine. And if you are going to speak about... inbred tendencies...well maybe you are from west virginia!

Well pardon me for appreciating great work!!!

I didn't realise one had to see Harvey's work LIVE, or personally talked with him first, before one is allowed to voice an opinion about his work???

I look very hard at pictures. They say everything! I'm a great fan of Harvey's work, and there's nothing you can do about it SHORT PANTS!!!;-)))
