Before DreamWorks decided to do The Time Machine, Arnold Leibovit - who owned the rights to any sequel or remake to Pal's movie - was looking at many options, one of which was the Pal/Morhaim sequel novelized and published by Dell in 1981. When DreamWorks became interested, they simply decided to go for a remake because they believed the Pal original was dated and that any sequel thereof would be "out of step" with Hollywood's current way of making movies. They wanted a "fresh" start. |
