Just received it today, double boxed and packed with foam via Fedex. Unlike Wayne's, mine arrived in near-perfect condition. Only one railing needed a little glue. Despite the inaccuaracies mentioned in other posts, I am quite pleased with this model. I ordered this over a year ago, but it was clearly worth it. |

Posted At 12:27:17 06/22/2003 Great News......Nick... I am still in the process of repairing mine. Tell me, does the electronics on your model function well?? How does the lever action work??In which direction do you have to push the lever in order for the dish to rotate? And one last question.. did you receive it FEDEX ground or air?? |

Posted At 04:11:07 06/23/2003 Delivery was via Fedex ground and arrived by surprise. I've suggested to John Geigle at Masterpiece Models that they provide a tracking number for future customers and he said they will. The electronics work well, that is all the lights light up (the middle red light on the console blinks) and the dish rotates picking up speed as you push the lever downwards. The lever has to be pressed upwards for it to stop. I was wondering how I might be able to reverse this somehow, so that it stops rotating in the down position and starts and speeds up on the up position. Anyone have any clues? |

Posted At 16:09:02 06/27/2003 You're kidding ! You mean they didn't even bother to correct the direction of the lever ? Did these people ever even SEE the movie ??? That certainly suggests a lack of attention to detail ! I bet Bruce will do it right... |

Posted At 07:14:12 06/28/2003 Yes, it is kind of annoying. And yet,the detail, overall, is very good to my eye. Inaccuracies exist as they do on most models, even expensive ones. I would love to see completed models made by people other than Masterpiece Models to compare. |

Posted At 15:02:14 06/28/2003 Another thing I have noticed and which others have since confirmed: the chair is bigger than it should be. You can tell that, just from comparing with photos of the real Machine in the movie. |

Posted At 23:17:48 06/29/2003 I will certainly try to do my best. I am nearly finished with my second 3-D Direct Morlock kit.... and following that, comes the Masterpiece Time Machine... |

Posted At 18:19:53 06/30/2003 Oh, great news Bruce ! I am surprised that, besides Scott Icard's model featured on this site (and Masterpiece's own build-ups), I have not heard of any other build-ups of this model being completed. It seems like many people are buying the kit, but few are actually building it... Like Nick, I wonder if anybody else out there is either working on or has completed a build-up of this kit. If so, please let us know. By the way, Bruce, do you know at this point whether it will be possible for you to install the lever so the dish and lights are activated when the lever is lifted UP, rather than pressed down ? I think a lot of people are wondering about that. |

Posted At 11:45:12 07/01/2003 In case anyone is interested, I was told by Masterpiece Models that my model was the 9th completed by them. |

Posted At 16:15:50 07/01/2003 I just sent Don some pictures to post on his site of my recently completed Masterpiece buildup. I will say that I am pleased with how it turned out. With no experience working with resin kits before, I was a little apprehensive. However i have done many scratch models before; ship models, mini guitars, and even a model of some famous ballparks. Anyway I figured that I had the main ingredients to do a decent job, namely patience and the right tools. Like many people who get this kit I was awed by the size of it. In fact I preferred a smaller version that could be easily displayed on a mantle. (I only found out about the smaller lunar kit after placing the order for the masterpiece version.) I decided to purchase this kit mainly with the idea of using it as a basis to build a scratch model on a smaller scale and I currently am building one at about 1/15 scale--the dish will be 4" wide. The masterpiece model and plans have been very helpful with this and I hope to have it done by the end of summer. As far as the quality of the kit is concerned I would say that overall I was happy. However if my experience is a typical one, and I am assuming from what I've read in the enthusiasts pages that it is, be prepared to adapt your own pieces somewhere along the line. Several parts needed to be entirely remade due to poor casting including the horizontal rail which was too limp to keep its shape once glued. I was told by masterpiece models that this is the nature of these kits. I suppose additional complaints to them might have gotten a new casting of this part but I didn't want to wait (it took about six weeks to get the kit). Anyway, the project took about 4 weeks to build in my spare time. I'm by no means a perfectionist or I'm sure it would have taken longer but I'm happy with the results. And now I have a time machine but no good place to put it. I'm thinking of purchasing the lunar version and putting the masterpiece model up for sale--any takers? |

Posted At 21:20:14 07/01/2003 Hi William, Glad you answered our call ! I was beginning to wonder if anybody else had actually completed a model from the Masterpiece kit. I and, I am sure, others are quite curious to see it. Many people have voiced the opinion that they prefer a smaller model and I tend to agree. The Lunar kit is about 1/10th scale so is definitely smaller. Somebody else was saying that Lunar is set to do a new chair for this kit, one that would more closely match the original one. I hope this is true because it will make this model even more appealing. But if you can scratch-build one yourself in 1/15th scale that is even more interesting ! That, I am very much looking forward to see. |

Posted At 16:00:59 07/24/2003 I make scratchbuilt versions of the time machine in 1.5" - 3.25" - 4.5" long. They are fixed models (no lights or spinning dish) but they are very similar to the original machine and they are a great display piece. I have some of them displayed on this site under the enthusiast's page-sculptures link (Luigi Vaccarini). If you want to see more, email me and I'll show you some pics. |
