Mr.
Young Goes to Boston by Alan Young This book is one of the most recent to be published exposing conditions at the Christian Science Church Center. In the early seventies, Alan Young, well known for his career in acting, went to Boston to serve the organization as Director of Communications, and later as a lecturer on the Board of Lectureship. While audiences are familiar with Mr. Young as an entertainer and lecturer, many are unaware of the treatment he received while working for the Board of Directors in Boston. His book is filled with humor and pathos, poignant in its account of his experiences at the hands of an ecclesiastical hierarchy. His book adds yet another first-hand account of conditions in Boston during the years when the members were first beginning to realize that things were not right in the organization. Having become disillusioned with the organization, he has watched the steady decline of the Church over the past twenty years with great dismay. He puts into words a growing realization among many Christian Scientists both within and without the Church that the time has come when we can no longer rely on Boston to carry the movement forward. We must do our own thinking and our own work. Mr. Young includes a shocking account of the fate of Pleasant View, Mrs. Eddy's home in Concord, New Hampshire. |

World Without End (1953) Rod Taylor is hurtled into the far future where the human race has divided itself into two races. One living above ground and one below. See the horribly mutated humans as they prey upon the more peaceful race. Wow, sound familar? Well so apparently did the Wells estate. Rumor is that the Wells estate sued the producers for infringement. This time the mutants are delt with more severely than with just a pocketful of matches. You even get the obligatory giant spider in a cave! Great 50's scifi for a Saturday afternoon. Pop some popcorn and return to the days where man could explore the planets with only WWII surplus equipment! |
